Egypt - Hatshepsut´s deathtemple in Luxor

Queen Hatshepsut is one of Egypt most famous personalities. Seven years into her nephews reign, she proclaimed herself as king. She ruled over her nephew for about 15 years, until her death. The history says that her nephew killed her. The nephew hated her so much, that he destroyed everything that she build, i.e. all of her faces in this temple is destroyed.

The history also tells, that if a man asked her to marry, then she would kill him. A king couldn’t marry another man. By the foot of her temple she build a burial chamber for the men which asked for her hand in holy marriage. From the temple she could look down on them.

The temples name in old Egyptian means the most beautiful of all. We agree with that. The temple is in a great valley, and you can se the Karnak temple from here. The temple is so beautiful and absolutely worth a visit. At first sight you can’t see that the temple, which is 3 stories tall, each with their own terrace. It is build at the foot of
the mountain, and some of it inside the mountain.

The decoration on the wall is the same as you see in Karnak temple. But more colourful and fantastic. It’s on every wall and all of the ceilings as well.

The temple is not far from Valley of the Kings. About 30 minutes drive by bus.
