Egypt - Alabastfactory [marble] in Luxor

Its a bit of a joke, to call  this a factory. Because it was “only” a workshop. There was 3 “boys” working in front of the shop, and they demonstrated to us how to make an alabaster vase. After the short demonstration our guide showed us the difference between real and fake granite, real and fake basalt and handmade versus machine made alabaster.

Her vises hvordan man fremstiller Alabast krukker...We were all going in small groups, and every group got its own salesman. Our salesman was the boy which was demonstrating in front of the shop. He gave us a drink and then they all wanted us to bye something. And they didn't stop trying to sell until we left.
And yes…we bought two statues.

The first statue we were looking at was granite Tutankhamun. But the salesman wouldn't sell for the price we wanted pay. We were bartering, and at some point his big boss came over and said that he couldn’t sell it for the price, and that we would have to pay more. After the big boss had left, the salesman pretended that he went against his bosses wish, and sold it to us plus another one at the very low price of 300 EGP. Maybe the price was a bit too high, but it was the price we were  prepared to pay. But we both agree, that it didn't matter what we paid. We both love the statues we bought, and don’t care about the price, because it was a good price in our eyes.

Now that we are home again, I can tell you that the two statues look beautiful at our shelf in our living room.
