Egypt - Travel tips - Bakshish is arabic for tip

The first thing to do:
It is a good idea to buy some water in the airplane.
You dont want to forget it, because you need it in the bus and airport.
Egypt is a hot place without water. Remember water from the airplane.

In the restaurant:
Its normal to give 10% of the bill at every restaurant. At some restaurants they have already deducted it from the price, but it will show on the bill. When you give a tip, you have to do it discreetly, as the Arabic men’s pride is vulnerable.

At the hotel:

It’s normal to pay the piccolo to carry your baggage to the room. Normally 5-10 EGP. But again remember to do it with discretion.

Domestic help - cleaning personel:
Its a nice gesture to put 40 EGP on the table for one week, but don’t put all the money out on the same day. If you do so, they will clean your room even better. But again, do it with discretion.

A visit at a toilet:
Normally a visit at a toilet cost 1 EGP. This is the price for one piece of paper. It’s not a big piece of paper, so it’s a good idea to have paper tissues in your bag.

Photo:
You will often get asked or showed to a place where you can take a really great picture. But always remember, that it cost 1 EGP. A cheaper alternative is to see where the guides show other tourists, and then just go there yourself a minute later. There is also some Egyptian men who will be photographed with you, and that’s a nice souvenir to take home - of course it cost 1 EGP as well.

The Internet - WebCafe

In Egypt there is a lot of internet cafes. The price is from 10 to 20 EGP for one hour. Computers MSN Messenger installed.
If you have a laptop, it’s possible to put that on the internet from some of the shops. Then you have all that you need to use

Its not very fast internet in Egypt, but a lot of places at the cafés are now changing to ADSL - which allow you to use Skype for calling family and friends at home. But of course, you have to have a microphone and headset with you.
