It was Manetho that in 300 BC. Wrote the history about Egypt in Greek to tell Ptolemaius about the land of the Niles past. He divided the pharaohs into 30 dynasties and placed Menes as the first pharaoh.


All the pharaohs names where translated into Greek. Kheops was before Khufu, Mykerinos was Menkaure, Amenohis was Amenoteb and so on. Today both names is used,  so sometimes it can get a bit difficult to find out who is who.
