In
3250 BC. and until the 4 century ad the Egyptian people was writing
with hieroglyphs. There are to types of hieroglyphs. The one the
used in stone, and the one the used on papyrus. All over Egypt you
can see these hieroglyphs, on papyrus, in the temples and on the
graves.
Sometimes
in the history the loose the knowledge of these signs, and no one
can read or write them anymore. In centuries this went on. In 1822
Jean-Francois Champollion was looking at the Rosetta-stone. He found
6 types of hieroglyphs by comparing the name of Ptolemaius.

Arabian texts is read fro right to the left. But
Egyptian texts can be read from the both sides.
Its bepends on the signs.
Fx. if a sign (a foot) is pointing with the toes to the
right, then you have to read to the right. If they are
pointing to the left, you have to read to the left side.
All text is read from the top to the bottom.
